Steampunk Photo Shoot

For the first time in ages, we were blessed with a sunny Saturday last weekend.  Therefore at Vaudeville HQ, we jumped at the opportunity to have a steampunk inspired photo shoot in order to create some original material that we can develop into the Vaudeville Hippie range.

Our costumes were a combination of hand crafted fancy dress and props from our ever growing collection of costumes and accessories.  Soon, I am sure they will need their own wardrobe!

To create the white back drop we made full use of our south facing patio door and hung a white sheet so that it would diffuse the bright sunlight streaming in, which worked surprisingly well for such a simple idea.  We were both very pleased with the outcome and shall use the same technique for future VH photography shoots.

All photos we're shot using the Canon 600D, which in my opinion takes fantastic photos.  Despite having the camera for almost a year now I have yet to fully learn all the functions and therefore I am still testing out the various settings.

However, I always learn something new each time I use it and look forward to the day when I have mastered the video function to create beautifully shot and edited films of our creations as well as photographs.  I really love the videos and photos produced by the boatpeoplevintage for their mix of music, style and editing.

Update Jan 2013

I am ashamed to admit that after solemnly promising to myself that I would definitely keep up a regular blog, I failed rather spectacularly.

However, all is not lost for the Vaudeville Hippie project and I am pleased to say that my boyfriend and I have teamed up to make this a joint venture.  Since the New Year we have made progress in getting the business off the ground, and whilst we are not quite ready to upload items to our Esty store, we have been busy developing our first line of products and brand identity.

It has been a sharp learning curve for both of us, but totally enjoyable a long the way.  We both feel totally passionate about this and look forward to see this develop...

Vlog Wednesday - Fulfilling the Dream

(Ok, so technically not a 'vlog' because this is a written post)

This week I wanted celebrate the fact that one of my friends and colleagues has been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to follow her dream and set up in business designing, making and selling a wide range of beautiful cakes and treats.

I have been lucky enough to follow Cakes for YOUR Occasions progress via her Facebook page and to sample some of her delicious cakes.  Not only do they taste amazing but these cakes are also true pieces of art.

Naturally I will be sad to see Kathy go, but at the same time I am delighted that she has an opportunity to make a living doing something enjoys and feels passionate about.  Kathy is a real inspiration and a close to home reminder that it is possible to earn a living doing something you love.

Please check out her Facebook page and website for more information about Kathy's wonderful cakes.
